De Majum was founded in 2004 by the infamous ´Papa Jan´. Jan became a sailor at the age of 13, has owned a brothel, was once a millionaire and was married four times. After a live full of adventure and the discovery that money indeed doesn´t make one happy he decided to settle down and start his child De Majum.
De Majum never got any subsidies and has always relied on the help off our regulars, people that visit the shop often (some even on a daily basis!) to come in for a cup of coffee and to discuss both the pleasures and problems of everyday life.
Everyone is welcome at De Majum and we pride ourselves in being a refuge for outcasts off all sorts. If you are friendly to the Majum the Majum is friendly to you, no exceptions. For this reason De Majum functions not only as a thrift store but also as a meeting point for the people of Delfshaven. Over the years, De Majum became a place that, although hidden in a quiet sidestreet of the Rotterdam-Delfshaven area, is well known by the people of Rotterdam and far beyond.
The Majum makes a point of avoiding commercialism and we can proudly say that we are still the cheapest (and maybe also the best!) thrift shop in the country. At de Majum you can still find real treasures since we refrain from looking up the value of the items that come in. And with the shop being 350m2 you can be sure you will find something to your liking here.
But the only way to experience what the Majum is all about is simply visiting us. We are open 365 days a year!
We hope to see you soon in the shop, where time has stood still, and where we like to keep it that way. Rotterdam may be changing but the Majum will stay the same. See you soon!
p.s. If we say we are the best thriftshop in town, dont take our word for it but just look at the reviews people leave us. Find them here.
